The International Space Station spread its new set of wings today, and now the STS-117 crew members can turn their attention to the mission’s next spacewalk. The solar arrays on the newly installed Starboard 3 and 4 (S3/S4) truss segment deployed to their full length with the assistance of the STS-117 crew. The S3/S4 was installed onto the station Monday before the start of STS-117’s first spacewalk, during which STS-117 astronauts began activating the truss. The arrays will increase the station’s ability to generate power when they go online.Today’s deployment activities occurred in steps, beginning about 11:43 a.m. EDT. The forward-facing array on the S3/S4 was first deployed to its length of 115 feet. The procedure was repeated for the rear-facing array which was fully deployed about 1:58 p.m.

The STS-117 astronauts are scheduled to enjoy a few hours of off duty time this afternoon before beginning preparations for the mission’s second spacewalk on Wednesday. Mission Specialists Steve Swanson and Pat Forrester will continue the activation of the S3/S4 and assist in the retraction of the starboard solar array on the Port 6 (P6) truss during the spacewalk. Wednesday’s excursion is scheduled to begin at 2:03 p.m.

The P6 will move from its location atop the station to the end of the Port 5 truss during a future mission.

Tonight at 9:13, STS-117 crew members will participate in interviews with CBS News and El Paso, Texas, TV stations KFOX-TV and KTSM-TV. The interviews will be aired on NASA TV.

Managers Add Spacewalk, 2 Days to Mission

During a post-mission management briefing Monday, John Shannon, chair of the Mission Management Team, announced NASA will extend the mission two extra days and add a fourth spacewalk. The team extended the mission by two days and added a fourth EVA to provide time to repair the raised thermal blanket on the Orbital Maneuvering System pod. A decision about whether that job will be done on EVA 3 or EVA 4 is expected today.

The next Mission Status Briefing is slated to take place at 6 p.m. today and air on NASA TV.

Internet Doomsday Creeps Closer

Internet Doomsday Creeps Closer
Big government pushes for total taxation and restriction on the last great outpost of free speech.

Recent proposals in the U.S. Congress are taking a huge swipe at freedom in America once again by aiming to impose multiple different forms of crippling taxation and restriction on users of the internet.

State and local governments this week resumed a push to lobby Congress for far-reaching changes on two different fronts: gaining the ability to impose sales taxes on Net shopping, and being able to levy new monthly taxes on DSL and other Internet-service connections. One senator is even predicting taxes on e-mail, reports CNet.

Several bills were introduced last week that could see all manner of new forms of internet taxation become a reality before the end of the year.

Sen. Michael Enzi, a Wyoming Republican, introduced a bill (PDF link) for mandatory sales tax collection for Internet purchases, meaning that if you buy items through online sites like eBay or Amazon.com, you might have to start paying additional sales taxes on your purchases.

The Libertarian party has warned that the bill represents more big government intervention and that while Enzi insists the bill “would not increase taxes,” the Sales Tax Fairness and Simplification Act would open the door for states to charge sales tax on Internet sales. In contrast to his statement, the C-Net article states that Enzi warned that other taxes may zoom upward if his “mandatory sales tax collection” bill isn’t passed.

In a second and separate proposal during a House of Representatives hearing last week, politicians weighed whether to let a temporary ban on internet access taxes lapse when it expires on November 1.

Such a move would leave open the possibility that simply using the internet would require a tax to be paid which critics suggest could sound a death knell for broadband, DSL and “always on” high speed internet.

Rep. Hank Johnson, a Democrat from Georgia compared the move to taxing people for simply entering shopping malls or libraries. With the U.S. economy already under considerable strain, taking a huge swipe at e-commerce, one of its cornerstones, seems like the worst possible thing Congress could do.

Furthermore, allowing taxation on internet access represents a slippery slope towards opening up the possibilities of taxing all kinds of internet based services.

“They might say, ‘We have no interest in having taxes on e-mail,’ but if we allow the prohibition on Internet taxes to expire, then you open the door on cities and towns and states to tax e-mail or other aspects of Internet access,” said Sen. John Sununu, a New Hampshire Republican.

An email tax would certainly suit both the government and internet providers who would likely get a cut. Last year it was revealed that AOL is planning to charge mass-emailers a fee to avoid the ISP’s spam filters and guarantee that their marketing emails arrive straight in AOL subscribers’ inboxes. Yahoo! is also endorsing the scheme.

Under such a system email considered “uncertified” would risk running through AOL and Yahoo!’s discrimination process. And as this potential profit center for the two net giants takes off, there’s no incentive for either company to deliver the “free email” – and every incentive for them to get the world conditioned to paying for guaranteed delivery.

A United Nations agency also proposed in 1999 the idea of a 1-cent-per-100-message tax, indicating that the idea has been floating around for almost a decade.

In recent months, a chorus of propaganda intended to demonize the Internet and further lead it down a path of strict control has spewed forth from numerous establishment organs:

  • Time magazine reported last month that researchers funded by the federal government want to shut down the internet and start over, citing the fact that at the moment there are loopholes in the system whereby users cannot be tracked and traced all the time. The projects echo moves we have previously reported on to clamp down on internet neutrality and even to designate a new form of the internet known as Internet 2.
  • In a display of bi-partisanship, there have recently been calls for all out mandatory ISP snooping on all US citizens by both Democrats and Republicans alike.
  • Republican Senator John McCain recently tabled a proposal to introduce legislation that would fine blogs up to $300,000 for offensive statements, photos and videos posted by visitors on comment boards. It is well known that McCain has a distaste for his blogosphere critics, causing a definite conflict of interest where any proposal to restrict blogs on his part is concerned.
  • During an appearance with his wife Barbara on Fox News last November, George Bush senior slammed Internet bloggers for creating an “adversarial and ugly climate.”
  • The White House’s own recently de-classified strategy for “winning the war on terror” targets Internet conspiracy theories as a recruiting ground for terrorists and threatens to “diminish” their influence.
  • The Pentagon recently announced its effort to infiltrate the Internet and propagandize for the war on terror.
  • In a speech last October, Homeland Security director Michael Chertoff identified the web as a “terror training camp,” through which “disaffected people living in the United States” are developing “radical ideologies and potentially violent skills.” His solution is “intelligence fusion centers,” staffed by Homeland Security personnel which will go into operation next year.
  • The U.S. Government wants to force bloggers and online grassroots activists to register and regularly report their activities to Congress. Criminal charges including a possible jail term of up to one year could be the punishment for non-compliance.
  • A landmark legal case on behalf of the Recording Industry Association of America and other global trade organizations seeks to criminalize all Internet file sharing of any kind as copyright infringement, effectively shutting down the world wide web – and their argument is supported by the U.S. government.
  • A landmark legal ruling in Sydney goes further than ever before in setting the trap door for the destruction of the Internet as we know it and the end of alternative news websites and blogs by creating the precedent that simply linking to other websites is breach of copyright and piracy.
  • The European Union, led by former Stalinist and potential future British Prime Minister John Reid, has also vowed to shut down “terrorists” who use the Internet to spread propaganda.
  • The EU data retention bill, passed last year after much controversy and with implementation tabled for late 2007, obliges telephone operators and internet service providers to store information on who called who and who emailed who for at least six months. Under this law, investigators in any EU country, and most bizarrely even in the US, can access EU citizens’ data on phone calls, sms’, emails and instant messaging services.
  • The EU also recently proposed legislation that would prevent users from uploading any form of video without a license.
  • The US government is also funding research into social networking sites and how to gather and store personal data published on them, according to the New Scientist magazine. “At the same time, US lawmakers are attempting to force the social networking sites themselves to control the amount and kind of information that people, particularly children, can put on the sites.” ———————————————

The development of a new form of internet with new regulations is also designed to create an online caste system whereby the old internet hubs would be allowed to break down and die, forcing people to use the new taxable, censored and regulated world wide web.Make no mistake, the internet, one of the greatest outposts of free speech ever created is under constant attack by powerful people who cannot operate within a society where information flows freely and unhindered. Both American and European moves mimic stories we hear every week out of State Controlled Communist China, where the internet is strictly regulated and virtually exists as its own entity away from the rest of the web.The Internet is freedom’s best friend and the bane of control freaks. Its eradication is one of the short term goals of those that seek to centralize power and subjugate their populations under a surveillance panopticon prison.

Washington (dpa) – The planners of the victims of communism memorial dedicated Tuesday in Washington based the figure of an estimated 100 million political deaths under communism on the book by French scholars, “The Black book of Communism: Crimes, Terror, Repression,” published by Harvard University.

The 1997 book, hailed by US reviewers as a groundbreaking documentary work, put the death tolls at 65 million in China; 20 million in the Soviet Union; 2 million in North Korea; 2 million in Cambodia; 1.7 million in Africa; 1.5 million in Afghanistan; 1 million in Vietnam; 1 million in the communist states of Eastern Europe; and 150,000 in Latin America.

In his speech at the dedication, US President George W Bush noted individual losses, including deaths in the Ukraine from starvation imposed by Soviet tyrant Joseph Stalin; the deaths of Lithuanians, Latvians and Estonians “loaded onto cattle cars and deported to Arctic death camps of Soviet Communism;” the Chinese killed in the cultural revolution and Great Leap Forward; Cambodians slain under Pol Pot; East Germans “shot attempting to scale the Berlin Wall;” Poles “massacred in the Katyn Forest;” Ethiopians slaughtered in the Red Terror; Miskito Indians murdered by Nicaragua’s Sandinista dictatorship; and Cuban refugees “who drowned escaping tyranny.”

“We’ll never know the names of all who perished, but at this sacred place, communism’s unknown victims will be consecrated to history and remembered forever,” Bush said of the memorial.

The memorial statue, called the “goddess of democracy,” shows a woman holding a torch high with her right hand. It is a replica of one carved by Chinese student sculptors in the spring of 1989, and erected during protests at Tiananmen Square that provoked severe reprisals from the Chinese communist government.

Congress had to approve the building of the memorial, but it was built with private funds raised by a non-profit foundation.

G8 False Flag Terror Attack Averted?
US “security men” attempted to smuggle C4 plastic explosive past checkpoint

It looks highly likely that a false flag terror attack to be blamed on protesters of the G8 summit in Germany was averted after German surveillance stopped a team of “US security men” attempting to smuggle C4 plastic explosives past a checkpoint at Heiligendamm.

The alarming revelation was buried at the end of a Deutsche Press-Agentur news article about the ongoing battles between police and protesters at the global forum.

Sources told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa that US security men tested German security by trying to smuggle C4 plastic explosive past a checkpoint at Heiligendamm.

German surveillance machinery detected the tiny stash in a suitcase in a car and the Americans in plainclothes then identified themselves. German police declined comment.

Was this simply a “test” as is claimed or more likely, an aborted false flag terror attack that was set to be blamed on protesters to legitimize the powerhouse G8 nations and the global elite while demonizing anti-globalization activists and justifying the use of lethal force against demonstrators?

If so, it wouldn’t be without precedent.

During the Genoa G8 summit in 2001, police planted petrol bombs in schools and other residences of protest groups in order to justify brutal raids on the properties during which activists were severely beaten and jailed Police claimed the raids were justified because the protesters were planning violence.

After the trial against the police got underway, the bomb evidence conveniently “disappeared”.

2ND LEAD: Protesters in boats at G8, crowds at fence

Heiligendamm, Germany (dpa) – Greenpeace protesters in several inflatable boats forced their way into a marine exclusion zone near the G8 summit at Heiligendamm in Germany on Thursday.

High-speed police patrol boats and inflatables gave chase for 10 minutes in a spectacular display of dodging on the Baltic before the protesters were caught. One of the protest boats capsized.

A Greenpeace spokesman said the group had intended to land on the beach outside the luxury summit hotel and hand a petition to Western leaders demanding action on climate change.

The previous day, police had confiscated motor parts for the inflatables on the Greenpeace mother ship Arctic Sunrise in a vain effort to nip the protest in the bud.

On land, police allowed protesters to assemble peacefully for a second day at a fence two kilometres from the G8 summit venue.

German authorities have legally prohibited protests in the area, but police have been pragmatic, insisting only that protesters do not touch the fence. Riot police have manhandled protesters away from essential roads only.

“We’re only clearing roads if they are needed by us, other transport operations or emergency services,” said a police spokesman.

On Wednesday, 9,000 protesters objecting to the three-day meeting of Western leaders had swarmed through fields to the fence.

At one gate to the summit compound, about 1,000 protesters spent the night in sleeping bags. At another access way to the east, 500 slept on the ground. Protest helpers hauled in food and portable toilets for them.

German police, who have 16,000 personnel at the summit, have called up reinforcements. Police unions said 200 riot police from Hamburg and 230 from Saxony-Anhalt state had been drafted to Heiligendamm to help with crowd control.

Police said they were concerned about violence, because protesters had been seen making petrol bombs or inserting nails in potatoes to use as missiles. Protesters had also planned to tie down riot police with diversions.

German police are under legal restrictions, and cannot use firearms against protesters on land or at sea.

On land they have have manhandled sitting protesters or hosed down larger groups with cold water from police trucks. Lines of riot police have used plastic clubs and shields to drive back the protesters.

Peanuts Kill More Americans

Than Terrorists
If western governments were really trying win the “war on terror” they wouldn’t give terrorists so much credit

Paul Joseph Watson

The menace of global terrorism has been labeled the greatest threat to western civilization since communism and yet swimming pools, peanuts and lost deer kill more Americans every single year. Why are our governments facilitating the terrorist’s agenda by hyping a peril that simply doesn’t exist?

The number of Americans killed as a result of international terrorism since the 1960’s gives us a benchmark from which we can correctly identify and target other dire dangers to our very way of life.

– Allergic reactions to peanuts

– Accident causing deer

– Lightning strikes

That’s correct – all of the above have killed an equal number of Americans since 1960 as terrorism. One could even categorize M&M’s, lost deer and the weather as an “axis of evil arming to threaten the peace of the world,” as George Bush famously once said.

Peanuts Kill More Americans Than Terrorists!

Enemy Combatant: Fear the deer.

As Ohio State University’s John Mueller concludes in a report entitled A False Sense Of Insecurity, “For all the attention it evokes, terrorism actually causes rather little damage and the likelihood that any individual will become a victim in most places is microscopic.”

Last summer’s much vaunted transatlantic terror plot, a facade that has since collapsed under the weight of its own absurdity, led to ridiculous measures in airports banning any form of liquids in carry on luggage and mothers were forced to drink their own breast milk. Yet there has not been a bomb planted in a piece of checked luggage on an American carrier since the 1988 Lockerbie disaster, itself a false flag inside job. Since that time Americans have been routinely interrogated millions of times about the contents of their luggage while cargo remains completely unchecked.

To equal the danger that Americans place themselves in every day by driving their car down the highway, there would have to be a September 11 every month. To reach the same level of risk that one undertakes in boarding an airline, you only have to travel eleven miles in a car.

The principle goal of terrorists is to terrify populations and governments into acquiescing to their political demands. The only way they can achieve this is by generating a substantial amount of fear and making people believe the lie that their life is significantly threatened by potential terrorism, when in reality the swimming pool in their backyard poses more of a danger.

As soon as we lose the fear, the terrorists lose their power over us to control our behavior. If western governments were really trying to win a war on terror as they claim then they would downplay and sideline acts of terror, pointing out that an individual has more chance of being struck by lightning than being killed in a terror attack.

And yet what do we see? George Bush and Dick Cheney frothing at the mouth predicting mushroom clouds over America, Fox News telling us every day it’s not a matter of if but when we’re attacked again, the British government warning that only “a miracle” would prevent London from being attacked over the holidays.

Peanuts Kill More Americans Than Terrorists!

Mueller elaborates,

“What is needed, as one statistician suggests, is some sort of convincing, coherent, informed, and nuanced answer to a central question: “How worried should I be?” Instead, the message the nation has received so far is, as a Homeland Security official put (or caricatured) it, “Be scared; be very, very scared — but go on with your lives.” Such messages have led many people to develop what Leif Wenar of the University of Sheffield has aptly labeled “a false sense of insecurity.”

By making these statements and continually recycling the hysteria, these entities are facilitating the goals of terrorists, driving forward an agenda that could not alone be fueled by relatively minor, rare and inconsequential attacks that take few human lives in comparison to the real dangers that we face every day – mundane things like car accidents, cancer and heart disease.

In that context, allied with the voluminous evidence that every major terror attack we have witnessed was either a provocateured set-up or an outright inside job, western governments are staffed at the very top by terrorists who are openly espousing the creed and statecraft of terrorism.

Only by coming to the understanding that terrorism is such a limited threat to our livelihoods and communicating that to others can we disarm the alarmist propaganda that governments utilize in order to enlist our obedience for the construction of the prison planet.

Fear is a lie.

Astronauts Finish First STS-117 Spacewalk

June 12, 2007

NASA Adds Two Days and a Fourth Spacewalk to MissionDuring a post-mission management briefing held at 8 p.m. EDT, John Shannon, chair of the Mission Management Team, announced NASA will extend the mission two extra days and add a fourth spacewalk to the mission.

Mission Specialists Jim Reilly and John “Danny” Olivas successfully completed tasks during STS-117’s first spacewalk to activate the International Space Station’s newest component.

The 6-hour, 15-minute excursion concluded at 10:17 p.m. EDT.

Reilly and Olivas went to work after the Starboard 3 and 4 (S3/S4) truss segment was installed onto the station. They made power, data and cooling connections between the station and the S3/S4. The spacewalkers also released locks and launch restraints on the segment’s solar arrays and prepared its radiator and rotary joint for operation.

The radiator was deployed during the spacewalk. The solar arrays will be unfurled Tuesday.

STS-117 Pilot Lee Archambault and Expedition 15 Flight Engineer Oleg Kotov were at the controls of the station’s robotic arm during the spacewalk. STS-117 Mission Specialist Patrick Forrester coordinated the spacewalk.

The start of the spacewalk and the attachment of the truss were delayed due to the saturation of the control moment gyros that control the attitude of the station. Flight controllers performed standard procedures to bring the CMGs back to normal operations.

S3/S4 activation activities will continue during STS-117’s second spacewalk, slated to take place Wednesday afternoon.
